Today was just more of flat, farm filled, Indiana, except this time there was a little less corn and a few more towns. At times we would just go from town to town without anything in between. We went through about 15 towns, and they were almost all stretched out along Route 40 for at least 3 miles each. Anyway, we woke up at 5:15, ate continental breakfast with Marla and Joan at 6:00, loaded at 7:00, gave Marla and Joan a hug and a kiss goodbye, then rode our way out of downtown Indianapolis. We took about 3 turns downtown, then we got on Route 40 and basically took that all the way to Richmond. It was a pretty busy road at times, but we're so used to riding on busy roads that it was just another day. That is exactly what it was until we got into a little town called Knightstown.

There is quite a story to this town for those of you who don't know. Back in the 50's, there was a very small high school that had a basketball team when there wasn't such thing as divisions. The team made it all the way to the State Championship and defeated a large school in Indiana to win the championship. If that still doesn't ring a bell, it's the school from the movie Hoosiers. We went to the gym and shot basketballs around for awhile with some other riders. I would of schooled Wade at basketball, but we were playing in socks. Actually the days of me beating him was a long time ago... what a punk. At one point an older man came into the gym and gave us a tour of the locker rooms where it was filmed and told us a bunch of information about the place. It was really cool to be at that gym, and I could remember it all from the film pretty well. We had a lot of fun there and we even got to watch big John dunk the ball. We put a video of him dunking it. The most amazing part about him dunking it is that he did it in socks, without stretching or warming up, and without running up to the basket. I guess it makes sense because he was good enough to play in the NCAA basketball tournament against Wade, that's D-Wade.

After we got done at the gym, we went about 5 more miles to the sag stop. We spent a lot of time at the sag stop too because at that point it was only 10:00 and we only had 30 miles to go. Once our 45 minutes at the sag was done, we rode through more towns all the way into Richmond. In Richmond, we had a choice of staying on Route 40 or taking a scenic route about 1 mile off course, and we chose the scenic route. It wasn't scenic at all, but it was more houses and less traffic. Once we got back onto Route 40, we were only about a half of a mile away from our hotel, so we stopped at Gyro King and ate lunch. It was delicious and very filling, so it was a good thing that it was downhill all the way to our hotel. When we got into the hotel, we swam and got in a hot tub that was so over 110 degrees... then we both screamed and immediately got out. After the pool, we hit up Steak and Shake for some happy hour half price milkshakes. Usually happy hour means beer to me, but I guess a milkshake will do. After that we went back to the hotel to get ready for tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, we cross over to Ohio and go right between Piqua and Troy.

  1. Wade,

The Hickory gym reminds me of a typical CYO court gym. Also your form is incorrect...see you in a week

  2. I saw your group is staying the night in Marysville, OH on July 15 (Day 40). In case you're not familar with Marysville, it's a nice little town. However, for a group your size (plus family/friends that may visit you), there is a perfect place for you to have supper: Benny's Pizza. It is a local pizza place that has room to seat 200 people due to their outdoor covered patio. There is usually music and it's always a fun atmosphere. I live in Delaware, OH (15 miles away) and we go there about once a month with a large group of people to hang out and socialize.

I went to their website www.bennyspizza.com and checked their entertainment schedule. On July 15, the group Hobgoblins (what a name! :) ) is playing from 7:30pm - 11pm and they play classic rock.

Since you're travelling with a group, they may have already planned where you're going to eat. However, I just wanted to pass that along in case it might help. Here is the information (with a big group, you may want to call ahead so they can set some tables aside for you): Benny's Pizza, 972 Columbus Ave., Marysville, OH 43040 (937) 644-8383.

Anyway - I hope you have a fantastic trip!

    Sincerely-
    An entertained reader :)
